Press Release Summary: The American Pharmacists Releases new edition of Public
Relations for Pharmacists in time for American Pharmacists Month 2008

Press Release Body: The American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the national
professional society of pharmacists, just published the second edition of Public
Relations for Pharmacists, the only book on public relations designed specifically
for the pharmacy field. It equips pharmacy professionals with a variety of public
relations tools they may use to advance their practice and the profession.

The book’s nine chapters go step by step from basic concepts to detailed examples of
working with the media; writing news releases, public service announcements, and
articles for publication; giving interviews; and using public relations
professionals. One chapter provides new ideas on community outreach through
participation in American Pharmacists Month, which occurs in October.

Lists of do’s and don’ts and quick tips for succeeding in various aspects of public
relations are sprinkled throughout, as are personal anecdotes that bring the
author’s messages to life. The work is geared to pharmacists in all practice
settings, student pharmacists, and volunteers and staff members of pharmacy-related
organizations.

An appendix includes a glossary of public relations terminology, frequently asked
questions about public relations with the answers, the Code of Ethics for
Pharmacists, and a directory of national pharmacy-related organizations.

The book was written by Tina L. Pugliese, APR, an executive coach and counselor with
more than 20 years’ experience in communications management and practice. Formerly
Director of Public Relations at APhA for 10 years, she now heads her own firm,
Pugliese Public Relations, in Palm Beach County, Florida.
